Clay Watkins said the change will produce a more continuous replacement zone (instead of piecemeal patches), improving curb life and the finished product. Staff noted the change order adds 45 calendar days to the contract completion time.
The commission approved the change order by unanimous voice vote; staff said the total value to Gator Grading and Paving after the change order will be roughly $1.48 million when combined with the original award.
Next steps: work is to be scheduled to coordinate with paving and other capital activities; staff will report construction progress to the commission.
