Eden Prairie proclaims March 8 as Polar Plunge Day, recognizes detective who leads event

The Eden Prairie City Council on March 18 read a proclamation recognizing Saturday, March 8, 2025, as Eden Prairie Polar Plunge Day and presented proclamations to police and community volunteers who organize the event.
The proclamation said the Eden Prairie Polar Plunge raised more than $184,000 at the March 8 event, drew 551 participants aged 12 to 92, and that the city has raised more than $2.1 million for Special Olympics Minnesota since the event’s inception. Detective Carter Stave of the Eden Prairie Police Department, who helps lead the event, received a formal recognition from the council.
The proclamation and remarks highlighted the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR), a program that has supported Special Olympics since 1982. Detective Stave — introduced by city staff as a member of the LETR executive council — told the council Minnesota’s LETR is a top fundraiser and credited Parks, Fire and Police staff and community volunteers with supporting the local plunge over the past 18 years.
Council members and others on the dais also acknowledged individuals who participated with local Special Olympics teams. City staff noted the Western Wings team had 48 participants and raised more than $30,000. Mayor Case and council members handed proclamations to volunteers and posed for photographs.
The proclamation encouraged residents to support Special Olympics Minnesota and the local Polar Plunge, and thanked the city’s Parks and Recreation, Police and Fire departments and volunteers for their ongoing support.
