Wilson County honors longtime animal-control volunteer Nancy Andrews; presents Governor's Volunteer Star awards

Wilson County commissioners on March 17 adopted a resolution expressing appreciation for Nancy Andrews’ 14 years of volunteer service to Wilson County Animal Control and recognized a slate of local volunteers nominated for the Governor’s Volunteer Star awards.
The commission read a resolution summarizing Andrews’ involvement, recounting a 2009 dog-attack incident on Posey Hill Road that led her to help establish and serve on the county’s animal-control committee beginning in August 2010. The resolution, moved and seconded on the floor, thanked Andrews for helping to shape county animal-control services and for supporting improvements alongside former director Mary Scruggs.
Nancy Andrews attended the meeting and said, “What an honor and a privilege it's been to serve the county and how far we've come. I'm so proud of how far we've come and proud of Mary and Steve — you're just doing great things.” The commission then presented her resolution and the assembly responded in support.
Animal-control staff also used the meeting to introduce members of the department and present volunteers. Steve Gatlin, director of Wilson County Animal Control, introduced staff and volunteers in the audience and singled out long-time contributors.
Separately, Sarah Davenport of the county’s Governor’s Volunteer Star coordinating committee presented plaques to nominees and announced the county’s state nominees: adult winner Claudia Levine and youth winner Rachel Bloomhart. Davenport noted the county nominated multiple volunteers across organizations including Wilson Bridal Inc., New Leash on Life, Joy Clinic, and others and said the county intended to recognize all nominees locally even though the state selects only one adult and one youth winner for the state banquet.
The commission did not record dollar amounts related to the resolutions. The county clerk was directed to file the resolution in the commission records.
