Forensic pathologist: Chadrick Lane died of multiple sharp‑force injuries; toxicology showed several substances
Summary
A board‑certified forensic pathologist told the court that Chadrick Lane sustained four sharp‑force injuries, including cuts to the carotid artery and jugular vein, and that toxicology revealed alcohol and multiple controlled substances; the doctor classified the death as a homicide.
Dr. Feng Li, a board-certified forensic pathologist with Forensic Medical Management Services, testified that he reviewed the autopsy performed on Chadrick Lane and the associated photographs and toxicology. Dr. Li said the autopsy showed four sharp‑force injuries — one on the right side of the neck, two on the left side of the neck and one on the back — and that injuries to the neck involved major blood vessels.
"Cause of death is multiple sharp force injuries," Dr. Li testified, and he told jurors the manner of death was "homicide." He explained that a cut to the carotid artery and nearby veins can cause rapid loss of consciousness and death in a matter of minutes: "Seconds to lose consciousness. Minutes to lose their life," he told the court.
