Clinton County wins $1.5M Community Crossings grant; commissioners accept bridge 60 rehabilitation bid

Clinton County announced on March 18 that it received a $1.5 million Community Crossings grant this year, and commissioners voted to accept a contractor bid to rehabilitate Bridge 60.
Rick Campbell, speaking for county highway staff, said the Community Crossings award will be applied to work on Mulberry-Jefferson blocks and Gas Line Road. Campbell said the grant is part of a 75/25 program and estimated the county's share at roughly $500,000, meaning the combined project will cover about $2,000,000 in paving work and approximately six miles of road.
“Clinton County was awarded… $1,500,000 for community crossings this year,” Campbell said. “You got me there. 6 miles. 6 or 7 miles.” He later noted the county contribution would be about $500,000 under the grant match.
On bridge work, county staff recommended and commissioners accepted the low bid from Civil Coding and Construction for Bridge 60 rehabilitation, in the amount of $681,658.50. The board voted 3-0 to award the contract; staff said there had been only one bid for that specialized bridge work.
Campbell also invited commissioners to a demonstration of a new boom-style brush mower slated for the highway barn.
