Students and staff honored at Green Local Schools Board meeting; multiple athletic and academic achievements acknowledged

The Green Local Schools Board of Education opened its March meeting with honors and recognition across the district. Board members and staff presented students of the month for Greenwood, Green Primary School (GPS), Green Intermediate School (GIS), Green Middle School (GMS) and Greene High School (GHS), recognized staff through the Green Schools Foundation spotlight program, and noted several staff retirements and student athletic and academic honors.
Students of the month named on the record included Nicolette Motice (Greenwood, kindergarten), Elena Wallace (Green Primary School, first grade), Violet Roberts (Green Intermediate School), Mitchell Dreher (Green Middle School), and two Greene High School seniors, Aubrey (granddaughter of Deborah Richardson, heading to Kent State University to study Spanish education) and Drew (student leader and Kent State-bound computer science aspirant). Presenters gave short descriptions of each student’s activities, interests and the reasons they were chosen.
The board recognized staff members Brock Bronson (Green High School), Melissa Crossman (Green Intermediate School, fourth grade language arts) and Gregory Hoffmeister (drama/theater; noted as a newer staff member) as part of the Green Schools Foundation’s Spotlight on Staff program. The district also announced retirements: Mary Lynn Rockwood (35 years of service), Dave Meadows (22 years) and Linda Magoo (recorded as completing her 28th year on the record). The board offered public thanks to each retiree.
Board members and staff also highlighted athletic and academic achievements: Greene High girls basketball player Jenna Slates was named Federal League player of the year and coach Alicia Manning was named Federal League coach of the year; Green Middle School’s academic challenge team finished 7–1 for the season; Green High School cadets earned national drill team honors, with Billy White and Jeffrey Lou winning national titles in individual categories; Green Primary students raised more than $21,000 for the American Heart Association; and other district students qualified for state-level competitions in swimming and academic tournaments.
The board used the recognitions time to remind families about upcoming events (an alumni celebration in April and school tours in March) and kindergarten registration details for students who will be 5 by Aug. 1.
