The Government Operations & Military Affairs committee voted to report H 10 favorably, as amended, changing the Charter of the City of Berry so that the city’s annual meeting is held on the second Tuesday in May.
Tucker Anderson, Legislative Council, told the committee the amendment “adds section 207, from the city of Barrie Charter and amends that section in both subsections a and b to conform the annual meeting date to changes within page 10. So that should be the second Tuesday in May.” Anderson also said the amendment “struck March” in a second place where the month had been specified.
The amendment inserts a provision into section 207 and leaves other subsections of that section in place via ellipses, Anderson said, noting the lead-in language is important because the text is being inserted before existing subsections. A committee member moved that the committee report H 10 favorably as amended; the motion passed on a roll call with only affirmative votes recorded.
Representatives recorded voting yes were Representative Boyden, Representative Pinstell, Representative Morgan, Representative Cooper Burlington, Representative Coffin, Representative Stone, Representative Cooper Randolph, Representative Nugent, Representative Waters Evans, Representative Byron and Representative Hango. The committee recorded the bill as reported favorably, as amended, and it will be sent on for further consideration consistent with the legislative process.
The amendment’s immediate effect is procedural: it aligns the charter text for the City of Berry so that the annual meeting date is the second Tuesday in May and removes a prior March reference in another clause. No other substantive changes to section 207 were included in the amendment text presented to the committee. The committee recessed afterward to continue work on other bills and to prepare for floor action later in the day.
