Round Lake Beach Police Chief Wylde told the Village Council on March 17 that the meeting would be his last as chief, marking nearly 28 years of service to the community.
“It’s been an honor and a privilege to work with all the fine people in the village,” Wylde said, adding that the decision followed discussions with his wife and that he would remain in the area for a time. He described his time with the department as “my distinct honor, to serve as chief of police.”
Mayor Nichols and other council members thanked Wylde for his service during the meeting. The council did not take a personnel action on the record at the March 17 meeting; the chief said he expects to remain with the department for another month.
Wylde’s remarks came during the mayor’s report portion of the agenda; no formal vote or appointment related to his retirement was recorded in the March 17 meeting minutes.
