Councilor Knappick said the Diamond Alley main is in poor condition and noted that unused laterals in a nearby parking lot can be plugged as part of the project to reduce groundwater infiltration. Public works staff explained that disconnecting and plugging unused stubbed laterals will reduce unwanted inflow into the sanitary system, improving efficiency and reducing treatment costs.
The West Milltown Road project will increase sewer capacity to accommodate imminent development near the Deer Creek Lift Station and West Milltown Road; staff said the work is budgeted and recommended advertising for bids. Both items were described as budgeted capital improvements and passed on the consent of the council.
