Panel renames Agriculture Hall of Fame to include forestry and adjusts appointments

Senator Yeager carried Senate Bill 7-55, which would modernize the Tennessee Agricultural Hall of Fame by changing its name to the Tennessee Agriculture and Forestry Hall of Fame and adjusting some appointing authorities to ensure geographic representation.
Yeager told the committee the change recognizes forestry’s role in the state’s agricultural economy and that the underlying board membership count remains the same while allowing the lieutenant governor, the Speaker of the House and the governor to make regionally based appointments (East, Middle and West Tennessee). The chair of the Department of Agriculture would continue to serve on the board under the proposed changes.
The committee adopted an amendment (code 5,942) the sponsor described as making the bill’s technical changes. With no questions on the amendment, the committee voice-voted adoption and then voted via roll call to place the bill on the calendar.
