Homestead High School renovation moves toward completion; monthly expenditures reported

Construction and demolition are advancing at Homestead High School and the district reported monthly expenditures and an estimated percent complete on the renovation project.
District construction staff and the project team gave the board an update on Homestead High School additions and renovations and a written budget report for the renovation project.
Jay Hagerman, presenting construction progress, showed drone photos and an executive summary to the board. He said demolition of the former ninth-grade academy (the freshman academy) is complete and that the north wings of the existing high school are being removed to prepare for a re-skinning and refacing of the remaining structure. The presentation highlighted foundation and corridor work, a performing-arts locker room that is complete with mirrors and finishes, phased kitchen renovation work that keeps food service operating during construction, and site work that will add nearly 100 parking spaces in the area of the temporary bus parking lot.
Hagerman also noted recycling efforts on the project, saying steel, aluminum and concrete materials are being salvaged or pulverized for reuse.
On the financial side, the district reported that expenditures incurred in the month totaled $624,001 across various categories; administration estimated the overall project to be about 95% complete after reviewing pay applications and progress reports.
Board members asked questions and praised visible progress on site. The project team said it would continue to manage phasing carefully to avoid disruptions to daily school operations as remaining work proceeds.
The district included the monthly budget report in the board packet and invited questions from trustees and the public.
