Great Valley teacher Tess Lutz honored as Delaware Valley Excellence in Teaching Award recipient

The Great Valley School Board recognized Tess Lutz, an English teacher at Great Valley High School, as a recipient of the Delaware Valley Excellence in Teaching Award.
Dr. Capitola introduced the award and praised Lutz’s classroom leadership and advocacy for students, saying the program selects 20 exceptional teachers across the Philadelphia region from “hundreds of nominations.” Dr. Capitola described Lutz as “a fierce advocate for all students who exudes positive energy and compassionate care.”
The board noted students’ praise for Lutz. India Hairston, introduced in the recognition as a Great Valley alum and a current student at George Washington University, told the board that Lutz “gave me hope. Hope in myself and my future.”
The board said recipients from across the region, including Lutz, will be honored at a ceremony on April 10. Members and administrators said several district representatives plan to attend.
Lutz’s recognition was presented during the meeting’s recognition portion; board members and administrators took a photo and offered brief congratulations.
