During public comment, resident Bill King asked the council to recognize three Vietnam veterans who died in recent years — Richard Walker (died 08/20/2022), Roger McDaniel (died 12/22/2022) and Virgil Peck (died 08/15/2023) — and urged that they be remembered at Memorial Day observances. The mayor asked King to provide the dates again and said he would check whether the names appear on the city’s veteran memorial stone. No formal council action on the request was taken during the meeting.
Council members noted that the proclamation’s author, a resident named Jenny Moore, was unable to attend the meeting and would be given time at the April 7 meeting to speak. The proclamation will be noted in the minutes and such proclamations are typically provided to community groups who request them.
