Panel advances bill to expand FDVA outreach, require events and annual reporting (subject to appropriation)

Senator Wright presented SB 1464 to the Military and Veterans Affairs, Space, and Domestic Security Committee. The bill would expand the role of the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs (FDVA) in outreach and benefits connection, subject to an annual appropriation of $500,000.

The bill requires FDVA to expand its internet-based mobile application, printed, social-media and in-person outreach programs to connect veterans and their families or survivors with earned services, benefits, and support. FDVA also must host at least two public events each year (in-person and virtual options) to disseminate information about available benefits, and submit an annual report to the governor, the president of the Senate and the speaker of the House listing events, attendance and other information the department deems necessary.
