Board members expressed broad support for the idea but raised practical questions about storage, volume and administrative burden. Several members described past incidents in which items were discarded or could not be located after school closures or renovations; one member urged clear limits (for example, time-limited retention) to avoid overwhelming facilities staff. Legal counsel noted it is common for policies to direct the superintendent to write administrative procedures; the superintendent said he would work with staff to draft workable procedures and recommended the board workshop a proposed policy change before formal adoption.
The discussion also included an explicit suggestion to add films and other historical media to the scope of protected items and a reminder that the district must balance community expectations with operational feasibility. No formal motion or vote was taken; board members asked staff to return with refined language.
