Village to remove Orchard Street water tower next week; storm and sanitary improvements set to begin in April

Andrew, the village engineer, told council that water and electric service to the Orchard Street tower have been disconnected and that the physical structure is scheduled for removal beginning Monday, when a crane and lift will be brought to the site. He also reported that the Fifth Scribe storm and sanitary improvements have completed a pre-construction meeting with the contractor and construction is anticipated to start in April.
Council asked whether notices had been sent to nearby homeowners; Andrew confirmed that notices have already been sent. Regarding the Orchard Street playground adjacent to the tower site, the engineer said: "We're not doing anything with the playground at this moment. We'll have conversations once it's down and what village council wants to do with the parcels." He added that because the contractor will disturb some park areas, the village may obtain complementary site grading that could improve ponding and drainage.
No formal vote was taken; council received the engineer’s report and directed staff to continue homeowner notifications and to coordinate site work around the playground.
