Surprise Youth Council logs 1,525 volunteer hours, plans Litchfield Road cleanup

Annalisa Dixon, vice chair of the Surprise Youth Council, told the City Council on Jan. 7 that the council and teen volunteer program together logged 1,525 volunteer and service hours in 2024.
Dixon said the Youth Council’s outreach committee is organizing a trash pickup event along Litchfield Road between Waddell and Greenway to encourage teen involvement in community service. She described the council’s mission as creating “a safe and engaging outlet for teens in Surprise” and said the Youth Council helps connect young people to community resources and events.
Dixon listed several 2024 activities supported by youth volunteers, including the city’s Surprise Fiesta Grande, Surprise Party and other community events such as a “gate night.” Parks and Recreation staff introduced Dixon to the council; Recreation Manager Joanne Estphan said the city appreciates youth participation in council meetings.
