The Kanawha County Board of Education at a statutory session called at 12:00 p.m. approved property tax levy rates to fund the county's current expense budget and the public library excess levy fund.
Board member Kate White moved the first levy resolution to set rates for the current expense fund; a board member identified only as Jim seconded the motion. The board approved the motion 5-0 after roll call votes of yes by members Cavender, Jordan, Tracy White, Crawford and Kate White.
The approved current expense fund levy rates are: Class 1 ' regular 19.40, excess 21.91; Class 2 ' regular 38.80, excess 43.82; Class 3 ' regular 77.60, excess 87.64; Class 4 ' regular 77.60, excess 87.64.
Kate White then moved approval of tax levy rates for the public library excess levy fund; the motion was again seconded by Jim and passed 5-0. The library excess levy rates adopted are: Class 1 1.04; Class 2 2.08; Class 3 4.16; Class 4 4.16.
Both votes were recorded during the statutory session and carried unanimously. After the votes the board recessed and said it would reconvene the meeting on a Tuesday in April 2025 at the board office.
