Staff demos new site‑posting map, points residents to MAG and ADOT studies; commission approves Feb. 20 minutes

Planning staff demonstrated a new online site‑posting map at the March 6 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting that is intended to make neighborhood meeting notices and project posting information easier for residents to find.
Staff demonstrated a public entry page that links to the city calendar and allows users to subscribe to notifications. On the map, staff said red dots represent neighborhood meetings and blue dots represent planning‑and‑zoning and city council items; clicking a dot shows related meeting information and a “view” link that opens the city agenda for the meeting. Staff showed a cancelled notice as an example and noted the map reformats for mobile phones and includes a “locate location” button that will zoom to a user’s position when information for that site is published. Communications and the city’s GIS staff assisted in building the tool, staff said; communications will publish information to help residents find and use the feature.
During the staff report, Planning staff also identified two regional studies and asked residents to review materials and provide feedback: the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) study described in staff materials as relating to US 60/Grand Avenue and a separate Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) interchange alternatives study involving the 303 connection. Staff asked the public to visit those agencies’ websites for study details and questionnaires.
Commissioner Berry asked that the site‑posting map be placed prominently on the Community Development or Planning and Zoning pages so users do not have to click multiple levels to find it; staff answered that Communications has added the link to the Community Development page and offered instructions for subscribing and creating a phone shortcut.
Separately, the commission approved the Feb. 20, 2025 Planning and Zoning Commission regular meeting minutes. A motion to approve the Feb. 20 minutes passed by a 7‑0 voice vote.
The meeting opened and closed a public‑comment period; no members of the public signed up to speak.
