The City of Glenarden on Jan. 21 authorized a renewal of the nonexclusive cable franchise with Comcast of Maryland LLC (Ordinance O‑5‑2025) and confirmed a slate of appointments to the Glenarden Board of Elections.
Ordinance O‑5‑2025 renews the city's cable franchise agreement with Comcast of Maryland LLC and directs the mayor to execute a franchise agreement substantially in the form presented to the council. The ordinance cites the Local Government Article (section 5‑204 and related authority) as the council’s power to grant nonexclusive cable franchises. The council brought the ordinance to the floor and adopted it by voice vote.
In a series of resolutions the council appointed several residents to the Board of Elections to fill vacancies and bring the body closer to a full complement for the March 2025 election timeline. Resolutions adopted by unanimous consent included appointments of Ava Gay Turner, Patricia Dennis (Ward 1), Gail Cooper (Ward 2), Susan Rhodes (Ward 2) and others named on the council docket. Council members stressed the need to expedite organizational work because the filing and packet timelines are compressed and the election timetable begins in February.
The council also clarified that when the board has fewer than the full membership the election board may call on volunteers to help staff an election if needed.
