Council members agreed in principle to host a candidate forum for the District 5 special primary on March 4, 2025, and directed staff to pursue dates and logistics.
Councilwoman Fareed proposed the city host a forum so residents can hear candidates’ platforms and ask questions. Several members said the city should not moderate the event directly; instead, they requested an independent moderator or outside host organization. Councilwoman Guillaume said she supported hosting the forum “with someone being...from not the city of Glenarden and serving as a moderator.” Councilwoman Jones said independent organizations such as the League of Women Voters or local NAACP chapters have moderated similar events and could be engaged.
The council indicated willingness to provide venue space (the Gold Room or community center) and to post event details on the city’s channels. Staff will coordinate availability and solicit impartial moderators or established civic groups to run the forum. No formal date was set by council motion; staff will return with scheduling and an impartial host proposal.
