Board adopts FY25–26 budget calendar and approves $1 million PSPRS paydown

The La Paz County Board of Supervisors adopted its fiscal year 2025–26 budget calendar and the board’s previously established goals and priorities for the budget process, and separately approved a $1,000,000 paydown to the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS).
County finance staff described the budget schedule and said department budget meetings with staff will occur the week of March 24–28, with study sessions and department presentations planned in May and final adoption steps targeted for June and August deadlines. A presenter said revenue projections and labor worksheets are being updated to support departmental budget requests.
On the PSPRS paydown, county staff explained the board had previously discussed a transfer from the landfill fund and that the one-time funds were intended for a pension paydown. County staff sought and the board approved permission for finance to make the $1,000,000 contribution to reduce the county’s PSPRS liability. Staff noted earlier actuarial estimates that each $1 million paid toward the pension could create about $100,000 of budget capacity in a subsequent year; staff said they would provide updated actuarial figures during the regular budget process.
Supervisors moved and seconded the budget calendar adoption and the PSPRS paydown in separate motions; each motion carried by voice vote with no additional conditions recorded in the meeting minutes.
