Board approves agreement with cattle ranchers for CAP access

The La Paz County Board of Supervisors voted on Feb. 18, 2025, to approve an agreement with county cattle ranchers to access Central Arizona Project (CAP) water as part of the consent agenda.
Supervisor Holly thanked rancher Boyce Anderson for his work coordinating with ranchers and for traveling to the meeting. For the record Anderson said his family has farmed in the county for generations, mentioned BLM allotments and expressed appreciation that rural Arizona secured a share of resources. He told the board, “I just can't thank everybody here enough, especially Holly.”
The board approved the consent agenda with item 6e pulled for discussion and then moved, seconded and approved the specific agreement. The clerk recorded voice votes of “aye” and the chair announced the motion carried.
County staff and supervisors described the agreement as the outcome of about a year of outreach between staff and ranchers and said the agreement will enable ranchers to access county‑held water rights under the CAP arrangement. No additional fiscal details were discussed at the time of the vote.
