Commission reports Bank Street Armory grant filed with state; decision expected in July

The Fall River Historical Commission received an update on the Bank Street Armory on March 18: the Preservation Society and commission staff submitted an application to the Massachusetts Preservation Projects Fund, and the state will notify applicants in July.
Commission staff said they and Alex Silva of the Preservation Society met with Mayor’s Office staff and the city grant writer, Jasmine Pereira, to finalize the application. The packet was mailed and received by the state; staff said it was postmarked on the due date.
No final decisions have been made about a museum organization acquiring the building. Commission staff described the grant submission as a "plan B" to support preservation or stabilization if a new owner is not under contract.
Why it matters: a state preservation grant could provide funds for studies, stabilization or other preservation work on the Armory if local acquisition or reuse plans do not materialize.
The commission will wait for the mass-historical-commission decision in July and will report back at future meetings.
