Fall River commission backs continued local support for Globe Mills tax-credit application

The Fall River Historical Commission on March 18 voted to issue a continued letter of support for a historic tax-credit application for Globe Mills, 460 Globe Street, keeping the project in the queue for state review.
The letter preserves the developer's eligibility while project design and engineering continue. Ed Hamzondu, principal at Bascan Capital, told the commission the team has not started construction and is in an engineering and design phase that will last several months. "That is correct, this is a request for continued support, and we have not done any work on the project...we expect not to work for the next 8 to 10 months, our construction will start...Q2 next year," Hamzondu said.
The commission asked for an update on design progress and sketches ahead of the next filing round; Hamzondu said he would provide the latest design materials in July so the commission could review them before the next application deadline.
Commissioner Ashley Daconya moved for the letter of continued support; Connie Soule seconded. The board approved the motion by roll call; all members present voted yes. The chair said the signed letter would be sent to the applicant before the filing deadline.
