Selectmen set committee liaisons and department contacts for 2025

At the March 17 meeting the Kingston Board of Selectmen completed its annual reorganization and assigned members to serve as representatives and alternates for the town’s boards, committees and department liaisons for the coming year.
Chair Ellie Alessio opened the meeting by introducing board members and then asked the group to approve a reworked spreadsheet of committee seats; staff administrative assistant Susan Ayer had drafted the list. Board members discussed consolidating department head liaisons so a single selectman would serve as the first contact for multiple adjacent departments to improve communication and consistency.
The board agreed to try a consolidated liaison model for town-hall departments and assigned the following responsibilities (board member listed first, alternate second where specified): planning board (Ellie Alessio, alternate Peter Bakey), historic district commission (Laurie Schwett, alt. Glenn Koppelman), heritage commission (Glenn Koppelman, alt. Laurie Schwett), budget committee (Ellen Faulkner, alt. Laurie Schwett), energy committee (Glenn Koppelman, alt. Laurie Schwett), solid waste and recycling (Laurie Schwett, alt. Peter Bakey), MS4 stormwater committee (Glenn Koppelman), 79-E committee (Glenn Koppelman, alt. Ellie Alessio), watershed committee (Glenn Koppelman and Laurie Schwett), museum committee (Laurie Schwett), and Kingston Day’s committee (Peter Bakey).
For department liaisons the board listed: highway (Peter Bakey), fire department (Ellie Alessio), police (Laurie Schwett), town clerk/tax collector (Ellen Faulkner), finance (Ellen Faulkner), recreation (Laurie Schwett), library/trustees (Ellie Alessio), board admin/assessing (Ellen Faulkner), building/inspections (Ellen Faulkner), human services (Peter Bakey) and audio-visual (Glenn Koppelman). The board asked staff to finalize and circulate the list to committees and to provide alternates where voting seats require them.
Board members said the consolidated-liaison trial will be evaluated and adjusted if the workload proves too concentrated; one member volunteered to serve as a consolidated liaison to building/assessing/finance and budget to reduce duplication of outreach.
Staff said a finalized list will be prepared and emailed to the relevant committees. The board did not take a roll-call vote on the assignments; members verbally confirmed placements during the meeting.
