Kane County accepts additional funding to spin out family-run organization focused on children's mental health

Kane County's Public Health Committee approved accepting an amendment to existing funding that will support formation of a parent-run nonprofit focused on children's mental health and family engagement.
Michael Isaacson described the initiative as an outgrowth of the county's early-childhood and mental-health work that trains and empowers parents to advocate, support peers and engage in community systems. Isaacson said the county previously accepted $150,000 to support the project and recently learned an additional allocation from the Illinois Children's Healthcare Foundation will provide further resources to launch an autonomous family-run organization.
The county's goal is to incubate the group and then help it transition to an independent, not-for-profit structure while continuing to coordinate with Family Service Association of Greater Elgin and other partners. Staff said further budget details and the implementation timeline are being finalized and that the board will receive deeper briefings as the program moves toward formal launch.
Committee members praised the program for sustained parent-engagement work and voted to accept the grant amendment. Staff committed to return with a fuller budget and implementation plan.
