Baker City — The council voted to award a public works contract to Quorum Main of Meridian for $490,340.94 to replace a portion of water main and to upsize a storm drain segment on First Street between Campbell and C streets.
Public Works staff described bids for the mountain line replacement project that came in lower than expected and recommended increasing the quantity purchased to realize unit cost savings. The First Street storm line work targets an undersized section that drains the southern downtown area into the Powder River; staff said upsizing the line should reduce localized flooding previously seen near Campbell Street.
Staff requested council approval of the contract award. The council approved the motion to award the project; the work will include helicopter assistance for pipe staging and was reported by staff to have yielded cost savings in prior years.
What’s next: Staff will manage contracting and staging with Baker Aircraft to coordinate helicopter operations. The project award establishes the contractor and funding authorization for the scope discussed at the meeting.
