CHSD 94 board adopts 'We Go' strategic plan, directs action-planning to set benchmarks

The Community High School District 94 Board of Education on March 18 approved the district’s final strategic plan and amended the motion on the floor to state the plan runs through the year 2030.

The superintendent’s office framed the vote as the first phase of a larger process. Curt Johansen, presenting for Dr. Dwyer, said adoption of the strategic plan enables the administration to convene “Gold Champion” teams that will develop detailed action plans, metrics and one-, two- and five-year benchmarks. "The action plan is built off of the strategic plan," Johansen said, adding the district plans to hold action-planning meetings beginning in April and return with metrics and timelines.

At the meeting several board members asked for clarity on timing, milestones and the review process. Administration said the strategic plan itself does not include the granular benchmarks because phase two—action planning—will produce measurable steps and a schedule; the board will receive midpoint and endpoint reports annually. The board amended the motion on the floor to explicitly set the plan’s endpoint in 2030 before voting.

Why it matters: Adopting the plan establishes district priorities and directs administrators to produce measurable steps that will guide budget, staffing and program decisions over the next five years.

Implementation and oversight: Administration will convene planning teams (Gold Champions) to draft action plans and metrics. Board members asked that minutes capture the timing discussion and requested regular reports on progress.

Next steps: First Gold Champion meetings are scheduled to begin in April. The administration said it will present benchmarks and implementation schedules to the board as they are developed.
