District teaching-and-learning staff presented a curriculum recommendation from the ELA review committee to the board, seeking parent input before a formal adoption vote.
Staff said a diverse committee of educators, parents and community members convened starting in January to review candidate ELA materials. After reviewing materials and meeting with curriculum developers, staff reported that a large majority of the committee recommended Great Minds’ Arts & Letters program, noting continuity with the K–3 materials the district previously adopted.
The district said it will post materials and an online input form on the teaching-and-learning webpage and scheduled a Zoom Q&A with the district’s chief teaching-and-learning officer for March 26. Staff said the formal public input period closes on April 4 and that the district plans to bring a final adoption request to the board at the next meeting following that input period.
Board members present expressed support for the continuity the program provides through middle grades and noted that staff are already training elementary staff on the new materials. No adoption vote was taken at the meeting; staff described the presentation as the committee’s formal recommendation and asked the board to solicit community feedback before making a final decision.
