The Bedford County Courthouse and Property Committee voted Feb. 25 to forward a favorable recommendation to the full county commission to advance plans for a small local morgue facility.
Captain Bridal Bruce, who briefed the committee on the proposal, said the facility is intended to provide short-term storage and processing of bodies when immediate transfer to a funeral home is not possible. "I can promise you it's a no frills plan," Bruce said, describing a layout that includes body storage, a bathroom for biohazard cleanup and a clerical area for paperwork or family identification.
