Commissioners press staff on sewer grant deadline and urge expansion of county grants capacity

County staff member Mr. Anderson said the county is "working" on the application and is "waiting on a little bit of information from Montgomery Water and Sewer" about future build-out estimates. Anderson said the county has budget estimates from previous years and that he would coordinate with city staff so "everybody is...singing from the same sheet of music." He confirmed staff understood the application deadline and the need to submit on time.
Commissioner Saiki emphasized the deadline, saying she believed it was March 21; a staff speaker confirmed, "Yes, sir. This Friday." Mr. Anderson stated, "No, sir. Something will be submitted."
Separately, commissioners praised a newly awarded $1,500,000 law-enforcement grant and credited Regina Walker and interagency collaboration for the successful application. County staff member Derek described the grant collaboration with the city and the district attorney’s office and said it would fund efforts including a real-time crime center and DA access to the county Axon database so prosecutors can retrieve video directly.
Commissioner Costanza said county grant capacity needs expansion, noting "Montgomery County has 1 person leading the road, and only she only she's there by herself. So in order to grow Montgomery County, we must grow our staff" in the grants office.
The commission instructed staff to continue coordinating with Montgomery Water and Sewer and city counterparts and to submit the sewer infrastructure application by the stated deadline.
