In the office's most recent month the office logged 35 in-person visits and 53 phone calls. Staff filed five in-touch files and pursued five disability claims, one supplemental claim, one higher-level review and one survivor's pension claim; the office also submitted three health-care forms. Ruth said staff had found cases where veteran records had not been updated in the VA system for several years and that staff are reopening or clarifying those files as needed.
Ruth said 418 veterans and eligible family members received a combined $779,268 in benefits in January (down from the prior month by $4,530). She listed outreach plans and office changes: the Blooming with Health Senior Wellness Expo at the Maquoketa Y on March 20 (office open 9:30 a.m.'4:30 p.m.), an office closure March 21 for a district meeting in Dubuque, and closure April 15'17 for spring school in Des Moines.
Ruth encouraged veterans with long-open claims to contact the office for case review; she said staff continue to help veterans locate missing or delayed records in federal VA systems.
