Public Works Director Dave told the council the buried pipes are damaged and that Maine Department of Transportation staff inspected the site. He said the city has temporarily packed the basins with rock to prevent collapse and that, "that could be, just as a stab in the dark, a quarter of a million dollars for repair on that section." He advised the council that DOT appears to own the right-of-way and that repairs would depend on DOT’s assessment and funding availability.
Councilors asked staff to continue coordination with DOT and to place the item on a future agenda once DOT provides options and a timetable. No formal action or funding allocation occurred at the meeting.
