Staff also noted that temporary signs are limited under the city's sign code (recent amendments limit temporary signage to 12 square feet and 4 feet high), meaning the applicant should avoid oversized temporary signs or seek a variance.
The applicant (representatives from Granger/Silent Lighting) explained the operational reason for maintaining signage at both entrances during any swap‑out — one sign helps direct trucks and the other directs deliveries and employees — and said they preferred a short interim to maintain traffic flow. Commissioners suggested options such as having new signage installed and then removing the old units the same day, or using a small temporary banner for a very limited period. The commission approved the permanent sign concept with the masonry base and required landscaping, and directed staff to work with the applicant on administratively acceptable temporary sign arrangements.
