Pittsylvania County Board approves agenda, moves into closed session and certifies closed meeting

The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors approved its March 18 work session agenda by a 7–0 recorded vote, voted to enter closed session on three specified matters and later certified the closed meeting by roll call.

Early in the session, a motion to approve the agenda was moved and seconded; the clerk recorded the motion as passing 7–0. Later the board voted 7–0 to enter closed session to discuss (1) prospective business location/expansion (Virginia Code §2.2‑3711(A)(5) language referenced), (2) consultation with legal counsel concerning solid‑waste contracts and rates and a pipeline matter (Virginia Code §2.2‑3711(A)(8) language referenced), and (3) consultation with counsel and staff regarding actual or probable litigation (opioid litigation), where open discussion would adversely affect the county’s negotiating posture (Virginia Code §2.2‑3711(A)(7) language referenced).

Following the closed session, the board returned to open session and the clerk read a certification resolution. The clerk then called the roll and each member answered "yes," certifying that to the best of their knowledge only matters lawfully exempted from the Virginia Freedom of Information Act and identified in the motion were discussed. The roll call recorded votes of “Yes” from supervisors Bowman, Dalton, Dudley, Ingram, Whittle, Hite and Tucker.
