Commission awards $150,000 to Home on the Range for Badlands Learning Center expansion

Dunn County commissioners voted to provide $150,000 from the county's Federal Mineral Royalty Fund to Home on the Range for a planned addition to the Badlands Learning Center, the county heard in a presentation at the March meeting.
Home on the Range representatives described the program's residential and trauma-focused services for youth and outlined operations of the new on-site Badlands Learning Center. The organization said the center opened June 3 and reported 77 students served since opening, credits earned and GED completions; staff asked the commission for county support to add classrooms, an occupational-therapy area and an outdoor living-skills area.
The commission moved and seconded a contribution of $150,000 from the federal mineral fund and approved it by roll-call vote; the motion carried. County staff and Home on the Range will proceed with any required contractual steps and project coordination.
