Dunn County Commission approves multiple funding and personnel actions; donations, grants and purchases pass
Summary
At its March meeting the Dunn County Commission approved a series of motions including grants to nonprofit and school programs, completion funding for the Young Farmers grant round, purchase agreements and several equipment and infrastructure authorizations.
Dunn County commissioners voted on a package of funding and administrative actions at their March meeting, approving donations, grant completions, equipment purchases and appointments.
The board approved a $40,000 donation to the South Heart Fire District funded from the county's Federal Mineral Royalty Fund. The motion passed on a roll-call vote with Commissioners Heiser, Olsen, Pelton, Clemens and Dolezal recorded as voting yes.
The commission also approved a $150,000 donation from the Federal Mineral Royalty Fund to Home on the Range to support construction of an addition to their Badlands Learning Center. The motion passed unanimously on roll call.
Separately, the commission approved $130,000 to fully fund all 96 applicants to the county's Young Farmers grant program, topping up the $350,000 already budgeted. A roll-call vote recorded approval by Commissioners Heiser, Olsen, Pelton, Clemens and Dolezal.
The commission authorized an $8 million allocation from federal mineral royalties to buy down school bond debt countywide; that motion also passed on a roll-call vote.
The board approved several operational and procurement items: signing a joint powers agreement with Mackenzie County to purchase a tar-distributor trailer (a "tar buggy"); acceptance of two utility permits (a three-phase underground power line and a 10-inch gas pipeline); and acceptance of a Highlands Engineering proposal for a topographical survey for the county's new Public Safety Building (survey estimated at $3,400 and to be paid from the project budget). All passed by motion and vote as recorded in the meeting.
Other routine board actions included appointment of an applicant, Matt Oase, to the Dunn County Housing Authority and the authorization to purchase an exempt-property module for the tax director's software at an increased annual cost ($1,600 this year; an additional $400 above last year) to be paid from general fund/assessor budget. The motion to authorize the additional funds passed with an affirmative roll-call vote.
