Dunn County commissioners on Jan. 8 approved a text amendment to the county land development code to add general construction as an allowed conditional use in the Manning zoning district and granted two conditional use permits (CUPs) that the Planning & Zoning Board had recommended.
Planning staff explained the amendment will add “general construction” to the Manning district use table. The change was proposed so that a contractor who seeks to occupy the former sample Green Building in Manning may apply for a CUP to operate from that location; if the text amendment takes effect, the applicant would then need to seek a CUP for the specific use.
The commission voted to approve the text amendment and the two CUPs together: one CUP for the applicant representing Handyman at Large (John Carlson) and a separate CUP for Mike Schollmeyer to operate a water depot. Commissioners said the planning board had held a hearing and recommended approval. The motion was moved by Commissioner Heizer and seconded by Commissioner Pelton; a combined vote carried.
Ending: The chair noted that if the commission approves the text amendment today it will go into effect in 30 days, after which applicants may apply for the conditional use permits required by the code change.
