Dunn County appoints housing authority members, approves $3 million for housing and buys site for public safety center

Commissioner Pelton moved to appoint Lance Larson; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. The commissioners also voted to place Commissioner Dave Olsen on the housing authority; the board recorded a voice vote in favor.
On a separate motion, the board approved allocating $3,000,000 from gross production tax revenue to the housing authority to support housing development. Commissioners indicated the county faces a housing shortage and discussed using authority-held funds for building or selling homes and reinvesting proceeds. The motion to allocate $3,000,000 passed in roll‑call voting with all present commissioners recorded as voting yes.
Also during the building committee discussion, the board agreed to purchase the DeBourg property, described by staff as roughly 7–8 acres and “build ready,” for $500,000 and to apply that purchase against the $20,000,000 the county previously allocated for the Public Safety Center project. One commissioner disclosed a family relation to the seller and asked whether to abstain; county legal counsel advised disclosure was sufficient when there is no direct financial interest, and the commissioner voted yes; the motion carried.
Commissioners directed staff to address site needs such as running a water line to a nearby cemetery and to coordinate site prep from the allocated building funds.
