City Council authorizes mayor to apply for major wastewater discharge permit modification

Jason Palmer, Environmental Systems Superintendent, told the council the modification is needed because the city will briefly operate both the existing and new treatment plants when the new plant comes online this fall. "We're having to do a modification to our existing discharge permit at the wastewater treatment plant to take into account the new treatment plant when it comes online this fall," Palmer said. He added that the current permit does not expire until June and the DEQ asked the city to submit the modification now.
The council moved and seconded the authorization; Councilman Shutran moved the motion and Councilman Williams seconded. The motion carried on a voice vote.
