Board honors wrestler Zena for state qualifications, athletic and academic achievements

Lakewood City Schools recognized senior wrestler Zena for four state qualifications, multiple state placings and academic success during a board meeting presentation.
Athletic Director Mr. Rapslow introduced Lakewood High School wrestling coach Russ Jermaine and asked the board to recognize student wrestler Zena for athletic and academic accomplishments.
Coach Russ Jermaine described Zena as a four-time state qualifier with an estimated 129 career wins and state placings three times (third, fifth and second place this year). "She is a state qualifier four times... she is a state placer three times," Jermaine said, and praised the student's competitive commitment and leadership in the girls' wrestling program.
The athletic director noted that Zena has maintained a 4.0 grade-point average while participating in the high school's health careers (nursing) program. During a brief exchange at the podium, Zena confirmed her mother was present in the audience.
