Kalamazoo names two new citizens review board members; board adopts minutes unanimously

Kalamazoo City announced two appointments to the Citizens Public Safety Review and Appeal Board: Ashley Huber and Regina Miller. The board then moved to adopt minutes from its previous meeting by unanimous voice vote and later adjourned by unanimous voice vote.

Ashley Huber was introduced as a new board member who works with the YMCA of Kalamazoo’s legal services program. The board noted Huber’s background in criminal justice and sociology, her work teaching in the Western Michigan University sociology department, and her participation in community groups that focus on inequity and advocacy.

Regina Miller was introduced as a lifelong Kalamazoo resident with about 20 years of experience in corporate operations, including finance, information technology and human resources. The board noted Miller is a Kalamazoo public schools graduate, attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College, serves on local boards and is a co-chapter director of Run This Town.

After the introductions, a motion to adopt last month’s minutes was made and seconded; the board approved the minutes by voice vote with all members present signaling “aye.” Later, a motion to adjourn was made and seconded; the board again approved by voice vote with unanimous “ayes.” The transcript does not identify who made or seconded either motion.

The meeting included a roll call at the start that recorded the following members as present: Jason Allen; Christopher Caldwell; Wally Farrar; Ebony Hemphill; Ashley Huber; Barb Miller; Regina Miller; Teresa Thrash; and Larry Tolbert. Susan Stapleton was excused.

The board announced upcoming meeting dates on the agenda: April 8, 2025, and May 13, 2025.
