Council ratifies two Teamsters collective bargaining agreements after closed session

After a closed-session negotiation update, the council unanimously ratified two one-year collective bargaining agreements with Teamsters Local 243 covering clerical/technical/professional and supervisory units for Feb. 1, 2025–Jan. 31, 2026.
Following a closed session the Committee of the Whole returned to open session and unanimously approved two resolutions ratifying collective bargaining agreements between the City of Lansing and Teamsters Local 243.
Vice President Carter moved to ratify the agreements. The council voted to ratify (1) the collective bargaining agreement covering the clerical, technical and professional unit and (2) the agreement covering the supervisory unit; both agreements cover the period Feb. 1, 2025, through Jan. 31, 2026.
The council recessed into closed session earlier under the Michigan Open Meetings Act (MCL 15.268) for strategy and negotiation sessions connected to collective bargaining. City staff identified that the closed session would include Director Elizabeth O’Leary, Dennis Parker and City Auditor Charles Randall in addition to negotiating representatives. After the closed session the council returned to open session and ratified both agreements by unanimous vote.
What’s next: ratification completes the local approval step for the agreements covering the stated period; implementation tasks and payroll effects will be handled through the city’s human-resources and payroll processes per the agreements’ terms.
