Council approves bids, appointments, first reading of short‑term rental ban; dozens of claims and actions recorded

Dearborn Heights City Council members approved a set of bids, appointments and resolutions and recorded several formal votes at their March 11 regular meeting.

The council unanimously approved the first reading of proposed ordinance H‑25‑02, which would explicitly prohibit most short‑term rentals and add enforcement tools and a $500 fine per violation; the motion sends the draft to the Planning Commission for a public hearing and recommendation within 60 days. Council members said the change responds to resident complaints about party houses and weekend disturbances.

The council awarded a contract to VIP Car Wash and Westbourne Car Wash to provide police‑vehicle cleaning services and authorized returning bid bonds to unsuccessful bidders. The contract term will run through February 2026 and the comptroller and mayor were authorized to sign related warrants.
