Chad, a city staff member, said the contractor will mow and trim medians on major corridors, maintain clear-vision corners at busy intersections and care for undeveloped city-owned properties. Staff recommended Hoffman based on a best-value scoring system; Hoffman has provided these services to the city for about six years, the presentation said.
Commissioner Moore asked why the city limits contracts to one year. Chad said prior multi-year contracts sometimes produced service issues when contractors underbid and could not sustain operations; one-year terms with renewal options encourage consistent performance and give the city flexibility. The commission approved the item by voice vote.
The work will be paid from Major Streets and Public Works general fund budgets, and the contract includes a contingency and an option to renew.
