The Office of the Auditor General reported March 17 that since its last quarterly follow‑up it closed three audit recommendations and currently has two outstanding follow‑up items, both in Food & Nutrition Services.
Monia Shahab said auditors verified that several recommendations tied to preventive maintenance in Facilities Maintenance were implemented, including creation of an SOP for twice‑weekly preventive maintenance and a risk‑based prioritization model that uses schedule and facility condition assessment data. OAG also verified that several trades graduates obtained full‑time positions after FCPS adjusted experience requirements to facilitate hiring.
Two remaining recommendations for Facilities Maintenance — forming a dedicated preventive‑maintenance team and exploring additional information‑system functionality — were proposed for closure by OAG after management reported budget constraints prevented implementation. Auditors closed the items with that understanding.
For Food & Nutrition Services, two recommendations remain in process. OAG said KPI development has occurred, but benchmarking data collection to establish baselines is ongoing; an update to Food & Nutrition Services regulation was also in progress and expected to be completed by March 2025. OAG will continue quarterly follow‑up and next report on April 30, with presentation scheduled for the June Audit Committee meeting.
Other items closed since the last follow up include a grants‑applicant training recommendation and process changes for Holland Middle/Elementary School related to monitoring donation projects and payments to FCPS personnel; auditors said a four‑month cash‑disbursement review found no donation or personnel payments to school staff.
