Doctor Reed, who presented the draft, said the document was a redline with few substantive changes and that legal references (including OSHA guidance and applicable state regulations) had been updated. Several board members pushed for consistent section headers (purpose, philosophy, procedures) and for using evergreen phrasing that refers to the superintendent or a designee rather than naming specific offices, to avoid repeated revisions after reorganizations.
Miss Marin and others said the committee should decide consistent language to reference families (parents, caregivers, guardians) and apply that across policies. Doctor Anderson pressed for clearer section headings and fewer embedded procedural details in policy language. Committee members agreed to allow staff and the governance chair to refine formatting offline.
The motion to adopt the proposed revisions was made by Miss Merritt and seconded by Ms. Sizemore Heizer. In the recorded roll call during the meeting, Ms. Marin, Ms. Dixon and the chair raised hands in favor; the committee approved the draft as presented and will bring the item to the full board with the agreed formatting work pending.
Committee members emphasized this adoption does not resolve broader numbering or categorization questions about where health-related policies belong in the policy manual; they asked staff to propose a task force or separate governance meeting focused on reordering and a style guide for policies.
The committee moved on to the next item after voting to adopt the revised Policy 2108, with staff to return with a consistent formatting approach before full-board action.
