Board proclaims March 2025 as Veteran and Military Women’s History Week in Kings County

Kings County supervisors on March 18 adopted a resolution recognizing the week in March 2025 as veteran and military women’s history week in Kings County.
Cody Pennington, assistant public guardian and veteran service officer, said the resolution honors women who have served in the U.S. armed forces and noted the county’s obligation to recognize their contributions. Several women veterans in the audience introduced themselves and identified their branch of service, including Neli Hernandez (U.S. Navy), Michelle Campbell (U.S. Army) and Dottie Contreras (U.S. Air Force); Pennington noted that Contreras had recently received accreditation as a veteran service representative.
Board members praised the veterans in attendance and asked department heads to allow veterans to be introduced at future recognition items. The resolution was reviewed by county counsel as to form and staff said there is no impact to the general fund in the current fiscal year. The board’s recorded vote on the resolution was unanimous.
Ending: Supervisors invited the women veterans forward for a photo and asked county departments to continue recognizing former service members at public meetings.
