Kings County proclaims March 2025 as Social Worker Appreciation Month

Kings County supervisors on March 18 adopted a resolution proclaiming March 2025 as Social Worker Appreciation Month in Kings County and heard program presentations on the work of child welfare and adult services social workers.
Jason Kent Vanney, who oversees the adult services division, told the board that in 2024 in-home supportive services social workers completed 2,365 annual reassessments to help clients remain safely at home and that adult protective services received 887 referrals for suspected abuse. Natasha Endress, program manager for Child Welfare, said child-welfare social workers investigated 989 referrals in 2024, closed 877 with no further intervention after connecting families to resources, and that 124 children were reunified with parents last year. Endress asked the board to adopt the Social Worker Appreciation Month resolution.
Board members moved and seconded the resolution. The board’s recorded vote on the resolution was unanimous. Supervisors and staff also posed for a recognition photo with social workers who attended the meeting.
Ending: County staff and managers said they would continue coordination with community partners to support social workers’ caseloads and community outreach.
